Christmas Concerts

We're currently rehearsing for a couple of concerts, which will take place over the festive season. For the first time we will be performing a winter concert at Crichton Collegiate Church, Pathhead, at 3pm on Sunday 9 December. The programme will include organ concertos by Handel, Haydn and Rheinberger, to inaugurate the new organ at Crichton.

A couple of days later we'll be performing our annual Christmas concert with carols at Morningside United Church. The concert takes place on Wednesday 12 December at 7.30pm with a programme that includes Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate and Handel's Let the Bright Seraphim.

Next rehearsal – Wednesday 3rd October 2012

Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra starts up again for our autumn season on Wednesday 3rd October at 7.30pm. The rehearsal – for our Christmas concerts – will take place at Morningside United Church, 15 Chamberlain Road, Morningside, Edinburgh. As ever we warmly welcome any new string players of at least Grade 6 standard, with no audition required to join. Concerts and summer break

Thanks to everyone who attended our summer concerts at Morningside United Church, Crichton Collegiate Church, Pathhead and St. Anne's Church, Dunbar. As ever, it was a fantastic experience for the orchestra to take our show on the road to such beautiful settings. Our programme was well-received, particularly the Bach Flute Suite in B Minor, performed by Lynne Bulmer, and Bach's Violin Concerto in A Minor, played by Lawrence Dunn. [Cont.]

The orchestra is taking a break for the summer, returning at the end of September to rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at Morningside United Church for our Christmas concerts. Summer Concerts, Rehearsals and New Members

The Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra will be playing three concerts at the end of our summer term, with a programme of light chamber music that includes Elgar's Serenade for Strings, Handel's Water Music and Bach's Suite Number 2 in B Minor.

The first takes place at Morningside United Church at 7.30pm on Friday 25 May. On Sunday 3 June at 3pm we will be playing our annual concert at Crichton Collegiate Church, Pathhead, Midlothian – and audience members are invited to join us for afternoon tea afterwards. Finally, we will be playing a concert at Dunbar Parish Church at 7.30pm on Monday 4 June.

Our next rehearsal is on Wednesday 2 May at 7.30pm at Morningside United Church. As ever, new members are welcome.

Reminder: Easter concerts

Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra will be performing two concerts at Morningside United Church during the Easter week. The first takes place on Wednesday 4 April at 7.30pm and we'll be playing Beethoven's Christ on the Mount of Olives with participation from various local choirs.

On Good Friday (Friday 6 April) we'll be playing the Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi.


Refreshments will be provided at both concerts. Admission is free but there will be a retiring collection.

Singers wanted for Beethoven performance

The Edinburgh Chamber Orchestra is seeking singers to perform with us at our next concert. We're playing Christ on the Mount of Olives by Ludwig van Beethoven with guest vocal soloists on the Wednesday of Holy Week and we're looking for singers to join the chorus.

If you're interested in playing a part in performing this beautiful piece please come to a rehearsal at Morningside United Church at 2.30pm on Saturday 31 March [Please note: this rehearsal is for chorus only. The orchestra dress rehearsal takes place at Morningside United on Sun 1 April].

The performance takes place on Wednesday 4 April at 7.30pm.
